Hi there! I am so glad you are here. My name is Kelly and I am a wife, believer, and a certified art teacher turned stay at home mom. I am also a motherless mother trying to navigate motherhood without my own mom. She died when I was 19 and after almost 8 years of working through the grieving process, I was hit with an unexpected wave of fresh grief when we found out I was pregnant.
During this new grieving process amidst my pregnancy journey I longed for resources and affirmation. To hear from someone else, “Me too sister, you are not alone. God will be your Helper, you will be okay.” But to my complete shock I could not find ANYTHING out there, at least not through a Christian perspective. That’s when the Lord placed on my heart to start this blog to share my journey in hopes that other moms who are in my shoes can feel less alone and be pointed Jesus, the true giver of hope and joy.
Having my daughter has also re-sparked a creativity inside of me that I have missed so dearly. My mom was known for her colorful personality and wardrobe and after losing her I also lost my desire to create and sort of tucked it away along with all things bright and colorful. Well not anymore! May this also be a space to share some of my creativity with you and spark creativity in your homes too! I want to celebrate color in every sense of the word. To try new things, eat colorful foods, get our hands messy, make art together, love people well, and celebrate all the different colors of His people.
So, here’s to figuring out motherhood without my mom, choosing joy in a broken world, celebrating the colorfulness of life, and trusting in Jesus who brings light in dark seasons. My prayer is that whether you are a motherless mother like me or not, you will be reminded of the hope and joy we can find in Jesus in the midst of a broken world.
This blog is a love letter to my mom, the most colorful person I have ever known.
About my logo: Each letter in the word “colorful” I hand cut from pieces of my mom’s clothing that I kept for another art piece I made in college. Each letter is unique, imperfect, wildly colorful, and full of personality. Just like my mom. It is like a warm hug and hello from her every time you stop by.
