On grief

Let’s talk about grief. Just because you have not physically lost someone does not mean you have never experienced grief. Grief defined is deep sorrow and distress caused by the loss of something or someone. That loss could be the death of a loved one, but could also look like losing your health, a relationship, job, marriage, pet, or your home. Grief can follow a traumatic experience, a big change in your life, a loved one suffering from mental illness, or a parent walking out on your family. You can even grieve an idea of how you thought your life was going to look if it doesn’t happen as you had envisioned. Chances are you will experience grief to some extent on this earth. It’s unfortunately part of the aftermath of the fall. For many it will be one of the most difficult and life altering experiences that you walk through. But there is hope.

“I remember my affliction and my wandering, the bitterness and the gall. I well remember them, and my soul is downcast within me. Yet this I call to mind and therefore I have hope: Because of the Lord’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness.” Lamentations 3:19-23  

God’s compassion and mercy for you is new every single day. Every morning along with the rising sun there is fresh grace offered to you. It is that same grace that invites us into relationship with Him. That grace is what got me through those early stages of grief. It wasn’t because of my own strength, but because of His. God said to Paul in 2 Corinthians 12, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

His grace is sufficient for you. That is a promise from the Lord. May His grace and power rest on you today.
